Cherokee Basket Making

Make and Take a Double Wall Cherokee Basket, instructed by a federally enrolled Cherokee basketmaker (Lisa LaRue Baker)! This first level class includes learning about the history of Cherokee baskets, and you will be given a ‘starter’ that you will be instructed on finishing into a completed basket, and a certificate of completion. The class lasts 1 – 2 hours, based on skill level of participants, and is limited to 5 students per session. Level 2 and 3 classes will be announced at a later date. This class is offered before Easter and Mother’s Day, and make perfect gifts!
The class cost is $50 and includes the presentation, instruction and assistance and all supplies. YOU MUST PREREGISTER and there is a $15 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT. Please visit to enroll and pay your deposit.
PLEASE NOTE: Under the Indian Arts & Crafts Act, you will not be able to call your basket a Cherokee Basket unless you are enrolled in one of the 3 federally recognized Cherokee tribal governments, or call it a Native American basket unless you have a CDIB from the federal government or are an enrolled citizen of another tribe. You WILL, however, be able to say you made a CHEROKEE STYLE double wall bakset under the instruction of a Cherokee basketmaker. You will receive a certificate of completion testifying to this.
