Sunflower Mural

Created in 2018

Artists: Jennifer Bohlander

Location: West Kansas Ave. Alley 900 BLK, facing East

Part of a personal art initiative, artists Jennifer Bohlander painted a total of 5 murals in the district during the 2018 year. “Verity” was completed as part of this project, along with “Topeka Postcard”, “Art Elephants Take Over Topeka”, Sunflowers”, and “Working Class Hero’s” (which was not intended to be a long term mural and is no longer located in the district). The sunflowers are a perfect fit behind the alley, reflecting from the glass mosaics of the Ragar Zagar mural, it creates a wonder that can only be experienced at sundown.

Health Access Tip:

Practice Gratitude

“Clinical trials indicate that the practice of gratitude can have dramatic and lasting effects in a person’s life. It can lower blood pressure and improve immune function. … Grateful people engage in more exercise, have better dietary behaviors, are less likely to smoke and abuse alcohol and have higher rates of medication adherence.” American Heart Association News, Gratitude is a healthy attitude.
